AMKY, HealthNet Put on Joint Auto Extrication Class in Lewis Co.
Air Methods Kentucky and HealthNet Aeromedical Services teamed up to
sponsor the first Lewis County auto extrication class and cookout, hosted
by Garrison Fire Department of Lewis County. KY-10 based out of Grayson,
Ky., and HN-4 based out of Lucasville, Ohio, had aircraft on-site during
the training exercise.
Lewis County is served by both programs,
depending on availability and the location where air medical is needed.
This was a great opportunity for both flight programs to show their
appreciation to the Lewis County Fire Departments and 911 center, which
have shown a great amount of support for both programs during the last
month with a new air medical provider in the area. Both programs have
provided service to the area since the inception of their bases,
responding to numerous dual-scene aircraft requests and enjoying a great
working relationship with the local fire departments, EMS crews, law
enforcement and 911 dispatchers of Lewis County.
Several Lewis
County fire departments had members in attendance, with a total of around
30. In addition, Kentucky State Fire Rescue provided an instructor and
equipment for the class. The students participated in setting up landing
zones for both aircraft and had a day full of hands-on education in auto
extrication techniques, working with the Jaws of Life and various
extrication tools. All fire department members, Med Corp EMS, and the
flight crews enjoyed a lunch of grilled hamburgers and hotdogs prepared by
KY-10 Flight Nurse Scott Crum. Overall, it was a good day of fellowship
and training among area fire Departments, EMS, and 911 dispatchers.
