AMKY Pilot Jeff DeCarlo Passes Away

Jeffrey Allen DeCarlo, 45, an EMS Pilot for Air Methods Kentucky, died Saturday afternoon after a short illness at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.

DeCarlo was born in Huntington, New York, to Walter and Gayle (Neil) DeCarlo. Upon completion of high school, Jeff joined the Marine Corps for 3 years and then transitioned to the Warrant Officer Corps of the United States Army and became an Apache Helicopter pilot. He became a commissioned officer in 1994, served in Desert Storm, Kosovo, Korea, and the United Kingdom as well as stateside duty stations.

DeCarlo retired after 20 years in the US Army as a Major. Following retirement, he moved his family to Kentucky to design Apache simulator programs for L3 Communications in support of the US Army.

He then was employed by Air Methods as an air ambulance pilot, most recently serving at their London, Kentucky, base.

DeCarlo was a devout family man who spent much time building trains and models with his sons. He was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church and was a strong Catholic Christian. He enjoyed fitness activities, shooting sports, riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles with his father, politics, and excellent literature. Above all, Jeffrey was a patriot; he espoused love of God, love of family, and love of country.

He is survived by his loving wife Laurie (Faix) DeCarlo; two daughters, Adriana and Maria DeCarlo; three sons, Anthony, Dominic and Nicholas DeCarlo, all of Richmond; his father, Walter A. DeCarlo; his mother, Gayle (Neil) DeCarlo; his grandmother, Florence Neil; one sister, Kristine Tilden (and John) and a niece, Amanda, and nephew Matthew.

Visitation will be from 2 – 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, at St. Mark Catholic Church, followed by a funeral mass at 6:00 p.m. Father Jim Sichko will officiate the service. The church is located at 608 West Main Street in Richmond, Kentucky.

Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
