Participates in Fish and Wildlife Cadet Final Exam
Air Methods Kentucky was proud to be invited to participate in the final exam for the latest Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources Cadet Graduate Basic Training Class.
New Conservation Officer
cadets are required to pass a forty-two week training course which include
classroom training at the Department of Criminal Justice Training Academy,
the Fish and “Our job is quite a bit different than that of most police officers,” said the KDFWR Training Coordinator. “Due to the nature of our job, we must be more specialized in order to perform the tasks that are not encountered by other officers.” One component of the training relates to emergency medical services, since officers are frequently the first to arrive on the scene of a recreational accident. At the end of this final exam on August 10, they responded to a boating accident, treating two patients with injuries and recovering a “patient” in cardiac arrest from 10 feet of water.
These patients were brought
back on department watercraft to the marina at Officers worked with the Spencer County Fire Department to set up a landing zone in the marina parking lot and cared for the patient while waiting for KY-5 to arrive on the scene. The patient was transferred to the helicopter and the exercise stopped, allowing time for the officers to receive additional instructions on helicopter safety from the flight crew.
