Air Methods KY-3 is based in Somerset, Ky., at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. The base was started in April of 2004 at its current location. We fly an
EC130 with an average speed of 120 knots or 144 mph. The airframe is capable of patient weights up to 500lbs (crew dependent) and is also capable of taking third riders. KY-3 is one of two AMKY bases available for IABP transports in the state.
Our main service area is Pulaski Co and its surrounding counties, including Wayne, Clinton, McCreary, Russell, Casey, Rockcastle, and Lincoln. KY-3 is involved in community events such as health fairs, AHEC educational conferences, and school career/safety days in our service area. In an effort to give back to the communities we serve, we also provide free health care and safety education to EMS, hospital, and fire personnel.
